When a parent and child (genders flexible)  are forced by a freak storm to seek shelter, they’re unexpectedly catapulted into a journey through seven interlocking riddle-based mini-adventures across seven fantastical realms populated with extraordinary creatures – ultimately returning home deeply transformed.

THE CROSS-CULTURAL MYTHOLOGY OF SEVEN PROGRESSIVE REALMS:

 

The seven realms are based on the seven-chakra progressions found in many cultures including Vedic, Hindu, Sufi, Judaic and Kabbalistic (Sefirot), as well as Nordic Vikings, Germanic and Teutonic cultures. With influences from religious and secular philosophies – from Buddha to Carl Jung; from the I Ching to the Kabbalah; and from Plato to Terence McKenna – this mythic journey and coming-of-age story aims to explore an emotional catharsis that resides beyond the reheated sentimentality of the standard “coming of age” tropes.

 

Each realm’s strange storyworld is a dreamlike alternative-reality version of the familiar. For example one realm might be an amalgam of nautical, aquatic and machine imagery (and a fusion of metaphorical philosophies inspired by each aspect). Another realm might be a grafting of the bestial and the botanical.

 

THE MONOMYTH & THE POIGNANCY OF THE HUMAN EXPERIENCE:

 

The narrative is built on the transcultural mythic hero’s journey. The parent and child protagonists’ are on paths – at times united together, at times each forced to travel onward alone – requiring them to journey through self-doubt, perilous confusion, dark isolation and the discarding of “illusions disguised as truth.”

 

 

THE SEVEN REALMS - PARALLEL THE SEVEN CHAKRAS

 

The story begins in “the ordinary world” then the pair must journey through an evolving topology light and sound. Each realm provides a test (and its lesson).

 

#1 Red - The Root Chakra:  Survival (blocked by Fear)

Realm of primitive power

 

#2 Orange - The Sacral Chakra: Pleasure (blocked by guilt)

Realm of emotions & sensuality

 

#3 Yellow - The Solar Plexus Chakra: Determination (blocked by shame)

Realm of self-determination

 

#4 Green - The Heart Chakra: Love (blocked by grief)

Realm of compassion

 

#5 Blue - The Throat Chakra: Truth (blocked by lies)

Realm of personal truth, self-expression

 

#6 Indigo - The Third Eye Chakra: Insight (blocked by illusion)

Realm of ESP, intuition, inspiration

 

#7 High Violet - The Crown Chakra: Cosmic awakening (blocked by ego attachment)

Realm of wisdom & transcendence

 

The final stage brings them back to “the ordinary world” profoundly changed.

 

 

A FLUID GENRE

 

As of now, this project’s final form is still open – it could evolve to incorporate musical songs or be performed with stylized dialog such as lyric spoken word/poetry verse – or possibly a hybrid combination of both.
